Abstract
In the first part, some physical characteristics of ultrasonic vibration : production, propagation, absorption, reflexion, and properties such as radiation pressure, cavitation and heat production are considered. The procedures applied in the field of medicine are then examined according to the diagnostic uses and therapeutic applications of ultrasonic vibration ; their modes of representation by amplitude modulation or brilliance modulation are described. In the second part, the noxiousness or innocuity of ultrasonic vibrations are considered both in industrial applications and in medical practice.
