A methodological procedure to date sediment cores by gamma measure of 210Pb is proposed. This procedure includes the self-absorption correction, experimentally obtained, and the sediment core dating, by software computation. Selection of detector type, sample container and measurement configuration are discussed. In the paper measurement corrections for core slices with very low content of sediment, with respect to the volume of reference calibration source, are also discussed. The method has been validated performing a comparison with two reference materials. As conclusion, the application of the procedure to sediment core coming from Venice lagoon is showed.
